Overweight permits

If your truck-trailer-load combination exceeds 80,000 lbs., it's considered "overweight." Additionally, the load must be non-divisible, meaning it can't be reduced within eight hours without damage.

At AVANTI Services Group LLC, we'll help you determine if your load is overweight and guide you through the state-specific permit process. We'll manage the paperwork, coordinate with state agencies, and provide pre-approved routes that comply with all legal requirements.

Oversized permits

A freight load is oversized if it exceeds 8.5 feet in width, 13.5 feet in height, or 53 feet in length, though state regulations vary. We'll assess your load's dimensions and weight to determine the necessary permit.

Some states require pilot cars or have restricted travel times for large loads. We'll handle all the details and plan the most efficient route, avoiding low bridges and narrow roads.

Temporary fuel permits (IFTA)

If you operate a truck across state lines, you need to be aware of the International Fuel Tax Agreement (IFTA). If your business is based in an IFTA member state and you drive through other member states, you need an IFTA license. Otherwise, you'll have to buy temporary fuel permits for each state you pass through.

You need to apply for IFTA credentials if you operate vehicles that:

  • Have two axles and weigh over 26,000 pounds

  • Have three or more axles, regardless of weight

  • Have a combined weight over 26,000 pounds when used with a trailer
